TUESDAY, JUNE 8, 1993 <br /> <br />Council considered a request by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations <br />Court Service Unit for an additional appropriation of $2,013.01 to <br />cover detention home expenses during FY 92-93. It was noted that on <br />April 13, 1993 Council approved an additional appropriation of $3,175 <br />for this item, but the additional amount was necessary to fund all <br />expenditures through the end of the Fiscal Year. Upon motion, duly <br />seconded and by unanimous vote, Council approved the supplemental <br />appropriation request. <br /> <br />Council considered a request by the Sheriff for an additional <br />appropriation of $33,850 in FY 92-93. Sheriff Maynard Gilley was <br />present and asked that the request be lowered to $21,745, which would <br />be used to pay for food, jail supplies, and medical expenses. Several <br />members of Council asked the Sheriff to explore means of cutting costs <br />in the jail operation, particularly as they relate to managing the cost <br />of medical care for prisoners. Upon motion, duly seconded and by <br />unanimous vote, Council approved the supplemental appropriation in the <br />amount of $21,745. <br /> <br />Council deferred consideration until the June 22, 1993 meeting of a <br />request by the Commissioner of Revenue for additional local funds in FY <br />93-94 to allow his office to fill a vacancy as a result of a <br />retirement. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council approved, on <br />first reading, Ordinance No. 93-7 amending Chapter 21--Taxation, of the <br />City Code by adding Article VII in order to establish a consumer <br />utility tax on telephone service. Council asked that a report on <br />revenue received from this tax be given with the monthly financial <br /> <br /> <br />
