FRIDAY, APRIL 23, 1993

not be possible without a reduction in personnel.

All members of Council commended the School Board and School
Administration for their work on the budget proposal and for the
quality of the School Division. Specific comments were as follows:
(1) Councilman Oakes suggested that the School Board and Council
conduct a retreat during the next fiscal year to provide leadership for
the educational program; and (2) Mayor McClain noted the School Board's
budget proposal included a 4% across-the-board salary increase for all
School Division personnel effective July 1, 1993, however, the State
was providing funding for a 3% salary increase for teachers and a 2%
increase for other personnel effective December 1, 1993. Mayor McClain
said it would be difficult to justify a 4% increase for School
personnel when employees under the City Manager would see an overall
increase of approximately .68%.

Mayor McClain then declared the meeting adjourned.

Lance G.
