TUESDAY, MARCH 23, 1993 <br /> <br />Jane Richardson, Blankenship Road, stated that the Phillies' games <br />provide a recreational outlet for children in the community. <br /> <br />Lafayette Jones, 501 Second Street, inquired as to what actions had <br />been taken in response to his concerns, voiced at the February 23~ 1993.~, <br />Council meeting, regarding early morning traffic congestion on Fayette <br />Street and sight distance at the intersection of Beaver Street and <br />Memorial Boulevard. City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr. stated that the <br />matters were under review by the Director of Public Works. <br /> <br />There being no other comments from persons present, Council returned to <br />its regular agenda. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged a financial report for the month ending 2/28/93. <br /> <br />In matters not on the agenda, the following items were discussed: (1) <br />Vice-Mayor Adams noted a recent Wall Street Journal article indicating <br />that in 50% of schools where asbestos removal had been performed, the <br />measurement of asbestos in the air had increased; (2) in response to an <br />inquiry by Councilman Williams, Mr. Reynolds stated that downtown <br />parking would be reviewed by the Downtown Revitalization group; (3) <br />Vice-Mayor Adams suggested that the City Manager contact the Town <br />Manager of Wytheville to review their emergency shelter operation <br />program; (4) the Mayor and members of Council commended City employees <br />for their work responding to the effects of the heavy snowfall on March <br />12-13; (5) Council set budget work sessions as follows: April 13th-- <br />City Manager's presentation; April 23rd at 2:00 P.M.--School Budget; <br />April 27th at 2:00--outside agencies, others; May 4th--wrap-up; May <br />llth--tentative adoption; May 25th--public hearing; June 8th--final <br /> <br /> <br />
