TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1993 <br />Delegate Ward Armstrong) and one in the Senate (introduced by Senator <br />Virgil Goode), which would allow the City to adopt an amendment to the <br />Zoning Ordinance in order to amortize certain existing, non-conforming <br />uses. Vice-Mayor Adams summarized the two bills and described the many <br />issues surrounding each. <br /> <br />Councilman Oakes commended the Fire Department for its efforts in <br />assisting to extinguish the recent fire at Stanley Furniture Company, <br />the Police Department for its endeavors in investigating a recent <br />double homicide, and the Electric and Public Works Departments for <br />their work in restoring electrical service after an outage in the <br />Forest Park area on the evening olf February 22. <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 2.1-344(A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, <br />and as amended), and upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, <br />Council convened into Executive Session for the purpose of considering <br />the following: (1) appointments to the Planning Commission and <br />Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, as authorized by <br />Subsection 1; (2) consultation with legal counsel, as authorized by <br />Subsection 7; and (3) discussion concerning a prospective new business <br />or industry where no previous announcement has been made, as authorized <br />by Subsection 5. At theconclusionof this Executive Session, Council <br />reconvened into regular session, wherein, by a recorded vote, each <br />member of Council certified that (1) only public business matters <br />exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed in said <br />Executive Session; and (2) only those business matters identified in <br />the motion convening the Executive Session were heard, discussed or <br />considered during said Session. <br /> <br /> <br />
