TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1994 <br />Upon motion, duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, Council authorized <br />the investment of $500,000 of the Refuse Collection Fund for future <br />Landfill closure/post closure costs. The City's Landfill has an <br />anticipated life of five years, after which it will have to be closed <br />and maintained for thirty years at a cost of 84.8 million, therefore, <br />it is necessary to set aside and invest monies on a regular basis to <br />fund this expense when incurred. <br /> <br />Other matters mentioned that were not on the Agenda, included: <br /> <br />Lafayette Jones commended the City for improving the water runoff and <br />drainage problems caused by heavy rains on Second Street. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams commended Richard D. Fitts, Coordinator of the City's <br />United Way Campaign, and the City employees for their contributions to <br />the United Way. The City's goal was 87,000, but 810,316.08 was contri- <br />buted, putting the City at 147% of its goal. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams commended those responsible for the holiday edition of "In <br />the City" (the City's Newsletter). <br /> <br />Mayor Adams noted that he, the City Manager and Assistant City Manager <br />would be attending the Urban Partnership Economic Summit meeting in <br />Richmond on December 8. <br /> <br />City Manager Reynolds announced that on November 29, the City Council <br />and City School Board would have a joint meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the <br />Sara Lee Training Facility. <br /> <br /> <br />
