3.76 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1994 <br /> <br />supports and, through its financial contributions to the revitalization <br />effort and commitment to maintaining all local government offices in <br />the Uptown area, materially participates in efforts to revitalize <br />Uptown Martinsville; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville Uptown Revttalization Association has formed <br />successful partnerships with the p~ublic and private sector in its <br />efforts to revitalize the Uptown area; a,nd <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of MaEtinsville believes that Uptown <br />revitalization efforts in Ma~tinsville represent a sincere desire of <br />the merchants, property owlish, business leaders, and the community as <br />a whole, to see the Uptown a~rea.'~ome a vital hub of activity; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council ofthe City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular session assembled November 8, 1994, that it does hereby fully <br />support the Martinsville Uptown Revitalization Association's entry into <br />the Great American Main Street Awards competition; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that it does hereby request that <br />the sponsors of this award, National Trust for Historic Preservation <br />and Edward D. Jones and Co., give favorable consideration to the <br />application of the Martinsville Uptown Revitalization Association. <br /> <br />In matters not on the agenda, the following items were discussed: (i) <br />in response to an inquiry by Councilman Crabtree, Mr. Reynolds stated <br />he would provide a report on the evacuation of the E911 Center as a <br />result of a fire alarm; (2) also in response to a question by <br />Councilman Crabtree, Mr. Reynolds stated that the City Staff was <br />working on development of a funding proposal to construct a sidewalk <br />alon~ Fayette Street to Rivermont Apartments; (3) Vice-Mayor Oakes <br />stated the recently-enacted Federal crime bill provided for fast track <br />funding for cities with populations of 50,000 and under for community- <br />oriented policing programs; and (4) in response to a question by Vice- <br />Mayor Oakes, Mr. Reynolds stated he would report at Council's December <br />meeting on the results of the traffic study of the Mulberry/Spruce <br />Street area. <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 2.1-344 (A) of ~he ~ODE OF VI~SXNXA (1950, <br /> <br />and as amended) and upon motion, dul~ seconded and b~ unanimous <br /> <br /> <br />
