J.56 <br /> <br />MONDAY, OCTOBER 10, 1994 <br /> <br />Chief Roop for the report and for the efforts of the Police Department <br />to deal with difficult problems such as these. <br /> <br />In matters not on the agenda, the following items were discussed: (1) <br />Alexis Lee encouraged Council to pursue a community forum on education <br />needs; (2) Councilman Crabtree reminded citizens present of the public <br />hearing set for October 12 in Roanoke on (among other issues) the <br />possible elimination of state funding for the Virginia Museum of <br />Natural History; (3) in response to an inquiry by Mayor Adams, Mr. <br />Worthy reported that a total of 52 taxpayers owe $203,000 in delinquent <br />taxes at the present time; of that amount, $141,000 is owed by the <br />owners of the old hospital on Starling Avenue; Mr. Worthy stated he <br />would make a recommendation at the next Council meeting on a course of <br />action to attempt to collect taxes from the major delinquent cases; (4) <br />in response to a question by Mayor Adams, Mr. Reynolds reported that <br />the Staff was still working to attempt to achieve a lower color removal <br />limit for the Wastewater Treatment Plant; (5) Mayor Adams suggested the <br />Staff review several City facilities regarding appearance and safety <br />issues; (6) in response to a question by Mayor Adams, Mr. Reynolds said <br />the Staff was utilizing a recently-completed study of the City Electric <br />Department; and (7) it was announced that the members of Council would <br />be attending the annual conference of the Virginia Municipal League <br />October 16-18 in Norfolk. <br /> <br />There being no other business to come before the Council, Mayor Adams <br />declared the meeting ad3ourned. <br /> <br />Lance G.
