A regular semi-monthly meeting of the <br /> <br /> TUESDAY, AUGUST 9, 19943,21 <br />Council of the City of <br /> <br />held Tuesday, August <br />beginning at 7:30 P.M. <br />George B. Adams, Jr., <br /> <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, was <br /> <br />9, 1994, in the Council Chamber, City Hall <br /> The following members of Council were present: <br /> Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; and M. Gene <br /> Teague. Absent were Clyde L. Williams and Mark A. Crabtree,' both of <br /> whom were away from the City. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor Adams' cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its July 26, 1994 <br />meeting as circulated. <br /> <br />Council considered a presentation by students from the Martinsville <br />Junior High School on recommendations for a curbside recycling program <br />in Martinsville and Henry County. The project was a result of the <br />American Youth Citizenship Competition and was implemented by teachers <br /> <br />Linda Cox, Carolyn Turner and Betsy Ivey. <br /> <br />make the recommendations were as follows: <br />Jennifer Phillips, Charlie Lintecum, <br /> <br /> Students who were present to <br /> <br />Mandy Turner, Burton Posey, <br />Courtney Stone, and Jamie <br /> <br />Farrington. Students who were not present but who participated in the <br />development of the project were Jeanetta Carter and Kristin Adkins. <br />The Students responded to several questions from the members of Council <br />regarding the proposal and Mayor Adams stated the Administration would <br />be contacting the students in the event implementation of such a <br />program is considered. All members of Council congratulated the <br />students, their parents, and their teachers for the outstanding work <br />which had been done on the project. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted, on <br /> <br /> <br />
