TUESDAY, JUNE 14, 1994 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martins- <br />ville, Virginia, with Mayor Allan McClain presiding, was held Tuesday, <br />June 14, 1994, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 9:30 <br />A.M. All members of Council were present: Allan McClain, Mayor; <br />George B. Adams, Jr., Vice-Mayor; L. D. Oakes, M. Gene Teague; and <br />Clyde L. Willjams. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor McClain's cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its May 24, 1994, <br />meetings as circulated. <br /> <br />Under Business from the Floor, Gloria Hylton, 402 Second Street, <br />expressed concern with the City's policy regarding the installation of <br />curb and gutter and asked that the Policy be reviewed and amended. The <br />current policy requires participation by all property owners and there <br />has been a situation in her area of the City where property owners live <br />out of town and are unwilling to participate, thus not allowing the <br />installation of curb and gutter. <br /> <br />Council conducted a public hearing to consider comments from or for <br />prospectivel members of the City School Board. Reverend William A. <br />Shackleford, Sr. of 405 Third Street and James H. Johnson, Jr. of 1507 <br />White Oak Court, both seeking reappointment, spoke on their own behalf. <br />Theresa E. Seay of 1010 Cherokee Trail was present and had expressed <br />interest in appointment, but did not speak. It was noted that Roger L. <br />Young of 719 Mulberry Road and Robert H. Bailey of 1920 Dundee Lane had <br />also expressed interest in appointment, but were out of town at the <br />time. There were no other names mentioned for consideration during the <br />public hearing. The Mayor declared the public hearing closed. It was <br /> <br /> <br />
