TUESDAY. FEBRUARY 22. 1994 <br />Parcels 2R and 3 also be rezoned in order to allow for commercial <br />development of the property. The owner of Parcels 2R and 3, Ruddco <br />Inc., supported the rezoning and the Planning Commission voted to <br />recommend to City Council that it be approved. Upon motion, duly <br />seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted the following <br />Ordinance: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia in regular session assembled this twenty-second day <br />of February, 1994, that the Zoning Map of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to the <br />extent that Parcels 2R, 3 and 4R located on the east side of <br />Brookdale near the intersection of Spruce Street are hereby <br />rezoned from C-1 Commercial to C-1A Commercial. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council, that, an emergency <br />existing, this ordinance shall be in force on and after <br />February 23, 1994. <br /> <br />Council considered approval of a proposed Overall Economic Development <br />Program Priority Pro3ect List to be submitted to the West Piedmont <br />Planning District Commission. Mr. Reed commented that the List had <br />been revised since being presented to Council during the February 8, <br />1994 meeting to move "Adaptive Reuse of Existing Buildings" from a Type <br />II Pro3ect to a Type I Project. Upon motion, duly seconded and by <br />unanimous vote, Council approved the List. <br /> <br />Council considered receipt and appropriation of $6,336 to the FY 93-94 <br />General Fund Budget from the Compensation Board in order to fund <br />temporary employee salaries in the Sheriff's Office. City Sheriff <br />Steve M. Draper noted that, due to the Compensation Board's policy of <br />requiring vacant positions to remain unfilled for a 30 day period, it <br />had been necessary to temporarily employ retired employees of the <br />Sheriff's Office to man the metal detector in the General District <br />Court.
