8 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1993 <br /> <br />located on Rives Road; (3) Vice-Mayor Adams requested that a statement <br />be included in the City's legislative agenda which would strongly <br />support additional funding for the Virginia Museum of Natural History; <br />(4) Vice-Mayor Adams made several comments regarding the 1992-93 audit <br />document which had been provided to Council members; (5) in response to <br />a question by WHEE radio reporter Mike Spence, Mayor McClain stated <br />that Council had nothing to report at this time on the status of <br />Council's search for a replacement for Councilman Draper; and (6) <br />Councilman Draper formally resigned from Council effective December 31, <br />1993 by reading the following statement: <br /> <br />It is with very mixed emotions that I submit to you my resignation <br />from Martinsville City Council. <br /> <br />The past two years have been two of the most memorable years of my <br />life. The City of Martinsville is fortunate to have each of you in <br />the position you occupy. I honestly can not express to you how <br />much influence you have had on my life. Thank you for the advice, <br />for the development, for your patience, and most of all, for the <br />fond memories. As you know, being Sheriff of the City of <br />Martinsville is something that I have wanted for a long, long time <br />and I believe that my experience on City Council has prepared me <br />to assume my new position with a clearer understanding of the <br />problems we confront. I look forward to working with you as we <br />revamp the Sheriff's Department and make it one of which the <br />citizens of Martinsville can be proud of. <br /> <br />As you know, a citizen can not hold two elected offices, so this <br />is to inform you that effective December 31, 1993 I will leave my <br />post as councilman for the City of Martinsville and assume the <br />office of Sheriff. <br /> <br />Again, I thank you for your past support, and look forward to a <br />pleasant and productive future as we work for the betterment of <br />our community. <br /> <br />Mayor McClain, on behalf of Council, then presented Councilman Draper <br />with a plaque in appreciation of his service to the City. <br /> <br />In accordance with the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) and upon <br />motion, duly seconded and by unanimous recorded vote, Council convened <br />into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing the following: <br /> <br /> <br />
