The first item on the Consent Agenda was the need to set <br />a date for a public hearing on a Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Award received by the Police <br />Department, a grant award of $33,730 for a mobile precinct. The second item on the Consent Agenda <br />was a request for Authorization of $25,350 from the Industrial Development Authority Reserve Fund as <br />an incentive for the Civic Development Group to locate their business in the City. By unanimous vote, all <br />members voting, (5-Ayes--Crabtree, Teague, Dallas, Haskell and Roop; 0-Nayes) Council approved <br />setting the Public Hearing for the Law Enforcement Block Grant for November 24, 1998 and approved <br />the authorization of $25,350 from the Industrial Development Authority Reserve Fund for payment to the <br />Civic Development Group. <br /> <br />Under items not on the Agenda: <br /> <br /> Mayor Crabtree presented a poster from the Ice Age Exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Natural <br />History, which he suggested be framed and hung in the lower level conference room of the Municipal <br />Building. <br /> <br /> Ms. Jean Lewis, Director of the Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad, came forward to let <br />Council know that her Squad had been downgraded to ALS/Shock Trauma level service, and that they <br />intended to obtain a variance to continue to operate at their previous higher level of <br />ALS/Cardiac/Paramedic service. Mayor Crabtree thanked Ms. Lewis for keeping Council informed of <br />these circumstances. <br /> <br /> Vice-Mayor Teague noted that he had been contacted by a resident about a problem with speeding <br />traffic on Liberty Street. Assistant Chief of Police Major Charles Long was present and was able to <br /> <br /> <br />
