· The writing of strategic plans has increased ownership of both Council <br /> and staff of their plans and has served to put both on the "same page". <br /> <br /> · Its recent integration with the Council budget process has been helpful <br /> to Council in managing resource decisions. <br /> <br />The group undertook the evaluation and rewriting of its previous goals and <br />agreed on 1999 goals as follows: <br /> <br /> · Improve Citizen Communications <br /> <br /> · Council & staff will commit to a consistent process of strategic <br /> planning. <br /> <br /> · Encourage and facilitate the economic development of Martinsville and <br /> Henry County. <br /> <br /> · Encourage effectiveness and efficiency of City services. <br /> <br /> · Insure the safety and well being of Martinsville citizens. <br /> <br /> · Recognize and involve the total community in the functions of <br /> government while being sensitive to our community diversity. <br /> <br /> · Support the achievement of the goals documented in "Vision 2008". <br /> <br /> · Aggressively seek regional opportunities for cooperation. <br /> <br /> · Facilitate the development of quality public education and work force <br /> training. <br /> <br /> · Be activ. ely involved in helping shape policies that affect municipal <br /> government. <br /> <br />In addition to changes incorporated into the goals listed above, Council added <br />an additional goal during its Friday session. <br /> <br />· Maintain and enhance the development of a high quality City <br /> employee work force. <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br /> <br />
