THURSDAY, AUGUST 25, 1995 <br /> <br />Objective: <br /> <br />Furnish state and federal representatives update on <br /> the City's legislative concerns. <br />Continue Council/staff active involvement in VML, <br /> NLC, and VACO activities. <br /> <br />Goal: <br /> <br />Aggressively <br />cooperation. <br /> <br />seek regional <br /> <br />opportunities for <br /> <br />Objective: <br /> <br />Explore regional <br />counties/cities <br />communities. <br /> <br /> cooperation with neighboring <br />and selected North Carolina <br /> <br />Action Agreements: <br /> <br />Conduct regional meeting to review New Century and <br /> Piedmont Triad cooperation programs. <br />Determine how regional cooperation can collaborate <br /> with New Century and Piedmont Triad efforts. <br /> <br />Council concluded their work on this portion of their retreat at <br />11:00 pm, and recessed until the next morning. <br /> <br />City Council resumed its Strategic Planning Retreat activities at <br />8:30 am on Friday, August 25, and began their discussions on <br />building strategies for networking. The following plan for <br />Networking Relationships and Strategies, along with networking <br />objectives, was agreed upon: <br /> <br />Important networking relationships exist with the Martinsville <br />Public School Board and the Henry County Board of Supervisors. The <br />School Board relationship takes the form of budget issues and <br />regular planning retreats to discuss educational issues and other <br />public education matters. Networking with the Board of Supervisors <br />occurs around pre-defined agenda meetings and informal meetings <br />between the County and City managers. <br /> <br />County formal networking relationships take a variety of forms such <br />as reciprocal agreements, public safety collaborations, parks & <br />recreation, water & sewer, social services, landfill, cable TV, <br />radio communications, the Community in Transition, PHDC, library <br />and airport. <br /> <br />Council intends to continue its meetings with well defined agendas <br />and increase its one-on-one cultivation of individual members of <br />the Board of Supervisors. Council's primary goals for its <br />networking relationships are: <br /> <br />Reduce the cost of government services. <br />Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of government <br /> services <br />The development of cooperative relationships. <br /> <br /> <br />
