TUESDAY, AUGUST 8. 1995 <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, was <br />held Tuesday, August 8, 1995 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 7:30 P.M. The following members of Council were present: <br />George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; M. Gene Teague;. <br />and Clyde L. Willjams. IAbsent was Mark A. Crabtree, who was away from <br />the City. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor Adams' cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its July 25, 1995 <br />meeting as circulated. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted, on <br />emergency basis, the following Ordinance No. 95-7: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular session assembled August 8, 1995, that it does hereby amend <br />Ordinance No. 92-11 which Amended Article I of the Business, <br />Professional and Occupations License Tax Ordinance by renumbering <br />Section 17 to Section 18, as follows: <br /> <br />18. EXEMPTIONS. The provisions of this Ordinance shall not <br />apply to non-profit organizations as determined by the <br />Commissioner of Revenue in accordance with applicable <br />Virginia and Federal law. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDaINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, <br />this Ordinance shall be effective immediately upon adoption. <br /> <br />In matters not on the agenda, the following items were discussed: (1) <br />Councilman Teague commended Joel Baker, Building Official, for his work <br />in placing a page on the City on the Internet; (2) Councilman Willjams <br />commended employees of the Public Works department for their victories <br />in a recent equipment rodeo; and (3) Councilman Willjams noted he would <br />be away from the City until August 18. <br /> <br /> <br />
