THURSDAY, JUNE 1, 1995
members of the Martinsville City School Board: J.A. "Sonny" Dykes;
James H. Johnson, Jr.; Bernie F. Gray, Jr.; and William A. Shackleford,
Sr.

Alan Burchette and Darren Conner, of Dewberry & Davis, presented
conceptual plans for construction of a new spectator gymnasium at the
Martinsville High School. The gym would seat 3,000 spectators and
would provide many enhancements in terms of facilities and space needs
to the physical education program at the High School. The estimated
cost of the gym was listed as between $4 and $5 million. The
architects responded to numerous questions from the Council and the
members of the School Board related to the proposal.

The general consensus of the Council was that the proposal would be
considered in an overall financing plan for capital pro3ects, which
would be considered at Council's annual retreat.

Assistant City Manager Dewey Cashwell introduced Wayne Knox as the
City's new Planning, Zoning & Housing Manager.

There being no further business to come before the Council, Mayor Adams
declared the meeting adjourned.

Lance G. Heater, Clerk of Council
