MAY 23. 1995 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, for our major economic development needs, there is not now, <br />nor in the past, any better source of direct, responsive, timely, and <br />cost-effective assistance than the Economic Development <br />Administration's; now, thesefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular session assembled May 23, 1995, that it hereby expresses its <br />great desire for the U. S. Senate, House of Representatives, and Office <br />of the President to suppor~ re-authorization of the U. S. Economic <br />Development Administration and appropriation of funds to the agency. <br /> <br /> Upon motion, duly seconded an~ bY unanimous vote, co~-~cil approved <br /> amendments to the Martinsvil~e~Henry County Economic Development <br /> Corporation's Bylaws. The amepdments were to Article III, Section 2 <br /> (Quorum) and Article IV, Sectif~ 1 (Executive Committee). <br /> <br /> Council heard a report from Di~ector of Social Services Pat Conrad <br /> <br /> regarding the State of Virginia's welfare reform program and its local <br />effect. Ms. Conrad responded to questio~!s from the members of Council, <br /> <br /> who expressed support for the program. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unani~ous vote, Council set a public <br />hearing for the June 13, 1995 meeting ~n order to receive applicants <br />for membership on the School Board for ~.three-year term beginning July <br />1, 1995. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged a financial report for the month ending April 30, <br />1995. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council reappointed <br />Rayford B. Smith, 1108 Knollwood Place, to the Board of Appeals ,for a <br />five-year term ending May 11, 2000. <br /> <br />In matters not on the a~enda, the followin~ items were discussed: <br /> <br /> <br />
