FRIDAY, APRIL 21, 1995 <br /> <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr., presiding, was <br />held Friday, April 21, 1995, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 9:00 A.M. All members of Council were present: George B. <br />Adams, Jr., Mayor; L. D. 0akes, Vice-Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree; M. Gene <br />Teague; and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />The Mayor noted the ~urpose of the Special Meeting was to consider <br />budget requests from outside agencies. The first agency to be <br />considered was the Di~ug Task Force of Martinsville-Henry County, Inc. <br />Representing the Te~sk Force was its Executive Director, Susan Moss. <br />Ms. Moss reviewed recent activities of the Task Force, noting that one- <br />half of its budget is raised from private sources. The Drug Task Force <br />was requesting $3'7,110 for FY 95-96, the same level as FY 94-95. The <br />request was ful].~ funded in the City Manager's basic budget. Ms. Moss <br />responded to.~nl~merous'questions from the members of Council regarding <br />the Drug Task Force's activities. <br /> <br />Pat Conrad, Director of Social Services, was present to make the budget <br />request for the Comprehensive Services Act. The FY 94-95 budget for <br />the Act was $126,885, with $129,035 being requested for FY 95-96. The <br />City Manager's budget recommended level funding of $126,885. In <br />response ,ItO questions from the members of Council, Ms. Conrad <br />characterized the Comprehensive Services Act as successful in that it <br />attempts to coordinate services from the various agencies involved in <br />dealing with youths who need services. <br /> <br />The next budpet to be considered was the Piedmont RegiQnal Communi~ <br />Services Board.
