J,O,3 <br /> <br /> WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12, 1995 <br />process of repairing the dam at the hydro plant when heavy rains <br />destroyed what had been done. We are presently working with consul- <br />tants to determine the best way to repair the damage and complete the <br />project. <br /> <br />Assistant City Manager Dewey P. Cashwell introduced the City's Safety <br />Coordinator Robert Phillips. Mr. Phillips noted accomplishments during <br />the seven-month period he had been in this position: (1) High-profile <br />awareness; (2) Attends department safety meetings; (3) Developed safety <br />training program for each department; (4) Conducted CPR and First-Aid <br />classes--City has four CPR and First-Aid instructors; (5) Serves as <br />liaison for Virginia Municipal League'Workers Compensation Program; and <br />(6) Investigates accidents involving City employees. In answer to a <br />question by Vice-Mayor Oakes, City Manager Reynolds noted the FY95-96 <br />Budget contained $5,000 to establish an Employee Wellness Committee to <br />assist in our safety program. It was noted that Mr. Phillips had also <br />implemented the random drug testing program for all employees with a <br />Commercial Driver's License--a requirement by law. <br /> <br />At this point of the meeting, Vice-Mayor Oakes had to leave to meet <br />another appointment. <br /> <br />Director of Water Resources John H. Dyches noted accomplishments of his <br />department: (1) Reoganization and promotion of Andy Lash to Water/ <br />Wastewater Plants Manager; (2) Upgrading the Plant's filter control <br />system--monitoring equipment; (3) Distribution System--study of for <br />accommodating new industries; (4) Permitting issues have been resolved- <br />-expecting a reply this month on a three vs five-year permit license; <br />and (5) Finished installation of four 7-1/2 HP low-power mixers which <br /> <br /> <br />
