short of the current fiscal year. <br /> <br />WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12, 1995 <br /> <br />The Council then proceeded to review the proposed budget page by page <br />allowing each Department Head the opportunity to address their parti- <br />cular portion of the Budget. Mayor Adams asked that eight new chairs <br />for the Council Chambers be added to the budget under Capital Expendi- <br />tures. <br /> <br />Chief of Police Terry Roop identified some achievements by the Police <br />Department, such as: (1) Received an Intensive Drug Enforcement Act <br />(IDEA) Grant which allowed the hiring of two police officers; (2) Pur- <br />chased bicyles for the Community Policing Neighborhood Program; (3) Re- <br />organized the Department placing one Sergeant over the Community Ori- <br />ented Policing Program and the Street Crime Team Unit; and (4) Imple- <br />mented the Citizens Police Academy for informing citizens of all <br />aspects of the duties and responsibilities of the Police Department. <br />Chief Roop also stated some objectives of the Department for the coming <br />year: (1) Preparing for application of a COPS FAST Grant which would <br />provide a School Police Resource Officer (City's share of grant is not <br />in the proposed budget); (2) Continuing efforts on illegal drug problem <br />in the City through covert operations, DARE Program in the elementary <br />and high school, community policing activities, night-time basketball <br />league at Albert Harris on Thursdays, bicycle rodeos, and CAD System <br />hookup in the Police Department to the 911 Emergency Operations Center. <br />Chief Roop noted renovations of the Animal Shelter were projected for <br />FY96-97 but we were not sure what was required by the State yet. <br />Councilman Crabtree asked if a regional concept for the Animal Shelter <br />had been considered, to which Chief Roop replied there had not.
