TUESDAY, JANUARY 24. 1995
Court. Service Unit for additional funding for Detention Home Expense
for FY 94-95. City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr. recommended Council
approve the supplemental appropriation request. Mr. Jan Reed, Court
Services Director, stated that to date $28,600 out of $30,000 budgeted
for Detention Home Expense had been expended. Mr. Reed requested an
additional appropriation of $16,761 to fund this expense through the
end of the fiscal year. Mr. Reed noted that 'it is impossible to
accurately predict the level of this expense in the annual budget.
Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council approved the
supplemental appropriation request in the amount of $16,761, to be
taken from the General Fund unexpended fund balance.

Council considered a request by the School Superintendent for an
appropriation of $2,259.88 from the General Fund to the Cafeteria Fund.
Mr. Reynolds said that funds received from the sale of food service
equipment from the recent School Surplus Sale had been deposited to
School-related budget line items in the General Fund. However, these
funds must revert back to the food service program, therefore, this
appropriation is necessary to meet this requirement. Upon motion, duly
seconded and by unanimous vote, Council approved the appropriation as
requested.

Council considered adoption of a Resolution supporting the Uptown
Revitalization Association in their application to the Virginia
Department of Transportation for a grant through the Intermodal Surface
Transportation Efficiency Act program for improvements to the
Bridge/Church/Main street parking lot. Jennifer D. Dalla Vecchia,
Executive Director of the Association, spoke in favor of adoption of
the Resolution. Ms. Dalla Vecchia noted the Association is proposing
