48 <br /> TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 1995 <br /> <br /> A ~regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of <br /> Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, was <br /> held Tuesday, January 24, 1995 in the Council Chamber, City .Hall, <br /> beginning at 7:30 P.M. The following members of Council were present: <br /> George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree; M. Gene Teague; and <br /> Clyde L. Williams. Absent was Vice-Mayor L. D. Oakes, who was away <br /> from the City. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor AdamS' cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its meetings of <br />January 5, 10, and 12, 1995 as circulated and amended. <br /> <br />Council conducted a public hearing on a request by The Lester Group to <br />rezone Lot 1R located on the south side of Commonwealth Boulevard, due <br />west and adjacent to the Virginia National Guard Armory, from R-6 <br />Residential to C-3 Commercial. Reginald Scales, City Planner, Zoning <br />& Housing Manager, stated that the Planning Commission recommended <br />approval of the rezoning. Ellen Bell, a Henry County resident, spoke <br />in favor of the rezoning. There being no other public comment, Mayor <br />Adams declared the public hearing closed. Upon motion, duly seconded <br />and by unanimous vote, Council adopted the following Ordinance: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia in regular session assembled this twenty-fourth day <br />of January, 1995, that the Zoning Map of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to the <br />extent that Lot 1R, located on the south side of Commonwealth <br />Boulevard, due west and adjacent to the Virginia National <br />Guard Armory, is hereby rezoned from R-6 Residential to C-3 <br />Commercial. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council, that, an emergency <br />existing, this ordinance shall be in force on and after <br />January 25, 1995. <br /> <br />Council considered a request from the Juvenile & Domestic Relations <br /> <br /> <br />
