TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1996 <br />contractors and two crews from the City of Salem in the effort to <br />restore electricity; (3) in response to a question from Council Member <br />Haskell, Mr. Reynolds stated that he and the County Administrator were <br />working to schedule public input meetings regarding the City/County <br />merger issue; (4) in response to a question from Council Member <br />Haskell, Mr. ReYnOlds said a meeting would be scheduled to finalize <br />Council's strategic plan; (5) in response to concerns expressed by <br />Council Member Dallas regarding crime and violence at Rivermont <br />Apartments, Mr. Reynolds said that the ultimate solution may be to seek <br />Federal assistance in dealing with this issue; Mr. Reynolds stated he <br />would return to Council with recommendations regarding this matter; (6) <br />in response to a question from Mayor Adams, City Attorney David Worthy <br />stated he was reviewing a revision to the City's Business, <br />Professional, and Occupational License Tax Ordinance, which would bring <br />it into conformity with State law by the required date of January 1, <br />1997; and (7) Assistant City Manager Dewey Cashwell noted that <br />representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had <br />visited the City earlier in the day and announced a toll-free telephone <br />number which could be used by citizens to contact FEMA to seek disaster <br />relief. <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 2.1-344 (A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, <br />and as amended) and upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous <br />recorded vote, Council convened into Executive Session for the purpose <br />of discussing the following matters: (1) appointments to the Board of <br />Appeals, Board of Zoning Appeals, Industrial Development Authority, <br />Pittsylvania County Community Action Agency, and City/County Business <br />Park Board, as authorized by Subsection 1; (2) consultation with legal <br />counsel pertaining to a specific legal matter requiring the provision <br /> <br /> <br />
