TUESDAY, AUGUST 27, 1996 <br /> <br />Campbell stated she was excited with the prospect of forming a <br />volunteer agency in this area. Council Member Haskell recommended the <br />following steps be taken: (a) complete the local survey of volunteer <br />activities; (b) further define program objectives for a local Volunteer <br />Action Center; (c) finalize project sponsorship; (d) create an Advisory <br />Board; (e) develop a budget; (f) solicit funding; (g) establish an <br />office location; and (h) hire a Center Director. Upon motion, duly <br />seconded and by unanimous vote, Council authorized the Committee to <br />proceed with steps a,b,c,e, and f as outlined above and then to report <br />back to Council. <br /> <br />In matters not on the agenda, the following items were discussed: (1) <br />Council Member Teague noted the celebration scheduled for September 7, <br />1996 by the residents of Massey Street to mark the completion of the <br />Massey Street Community Development Block Grant Project; (2) Council <br />Member Dallas expressed appreciation to the community for its support <br />in his family's time of bereavement following the deaths of his <br />daughter and grandson; (3) Council agreed to a system of pairing <br />Council Members with School Board members in the manner suggested in a <br />letter from School Board Chairman Judy Matthews; and (4) Upcoming <br />Council meetings were announced as follows: September 5--10:00 A.M. <br />(Council work session); September 5--7:00 P.M. (joint meeting with the <br />Board of Supervisors); October 3--10:00 A.M.
