J.92 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, JULY 23, 1996 <br /> <br />A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, was <br />held Tuesday, July 23, 1996 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of Council were present: George B. <br />Adams, Jr., Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree, Vice-Mayor; Bruce H. T. Dallas; <br />Elizabeth H. Haskell; and M. Gene Teague. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor Adams' cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its July 9, 1996 <br />meeting as circulated. <br /> <br />Under Business From the Floor, the following individuals commented: <br />(1) Gloria Hylton, 402 Second Street, asked that Council contact <br />Environmental Transportation Services (E.T.S.) and request them to move <br />from the old R.P. Thomas Trucking Company terminal on Fayette Street to <br />"a more suitable location"; (2) Thelma Pinkard, 208 Park Street, <br />supported the comments of Ms. Hylton and said the property was not kept <br />clear of trash and debris; Ms. Pinkard also asked Council to consider <br />a curfew for juveniles, citing an incident where a rock thrown by a <br />juvenile struck her automobile; (3) Pete Castelli, representing the <br />trade union UNITE, asked Council to "serve an eviction notice" on <br />E.T.S.; Mr. Castelli also stated that several barrels containing <br />unidentifiable substances were on the property, even though the barrels <br />were to have been removed; (4) Michelle Smith, 749 Indian Trail, also <br />requested Council take action to remove E.T.S.; and (5) Lillian Brooks, <br />204 Second Street, asked for assistance with a storm drainage problem <br />which is affecting her property. <br /> <br />Council Member Haskell stated that during the recent campaign for City <br /> <br /> <br />
