TUESDAY, JUNE 11, 1996 <br />Council conducted a public hearing to receive names of persons <br />interested in membership on the City School Board for two positions <br />with three-year terms beginning July 1, 1996. The Mayor announced the <br />following individuals had entered their names for appointment: Charles <br />W. Davies, Jr., Bernie F. Gray, Jr., Joseph Roach, Naomi Hodge-Muse, <br />and Theresa Seay. There being no comments from persons present, Mayor <br />Adams declared the public hearing closed. The Mayor announced that <br />candidate Bernie F. Gray, Jr. (who was the only candidate present) <br />would be interviewed in Executive Session and that the other candidates <br />would be interviewed during the June 19, 1996 special meeting. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council made the <br />following nominations for membership on the Virginia Municipal League's <br />Policy Committees: Community Development and Public Safety: Thomas <br />Harned; Environmental Quality: M. Gene Teague; Finance: Elizabeth <br />Haskell; General Government: Mark Crabtree; Human Development and <br />Education: Bruce Dallas; and Transportation: Leon Towarnicki. <br /> <br />Council announced the location of the Town Meeting scheduled for June <br />25, 1996 had been changed from Druid Hills School to the Martinsville <br />High School Cafeteria so that a reception could be held for retiring <br />Councilmen Williams and Oakes prior to meeting. <br /> <br />In a matter not on the agenda, Wayne D. P. Knox, Planning, Zoning & <br />Housing Manager, announced the City had received approval of its <br />Moss/Barton Street Community Development Block Grant Project.
