TUESDAY, JUNE 11, 1996 <br /> <br />A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, was <br />held Tuesday, June 11, 1996 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of Council were present: George B. <br />Adams, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree; M. Gene <br />Teague; and Clyde L. Willjams. <br /> <br />1,7i <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor Adams' cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its meetings of May <br />23, May 28, and June 5, 1996. <br /> <br />Service awards were presented to a number of City employees. A <br />complete listing of the awards presented is attached to these minutes. <br /> <br />Council conducted a public hearing on a request by Tommy Houston of <br />Pigs-R-Us, Inc., for the rezoning of Lots B & C, known on the City's <br />Tax Map as Sec. 2, Block 8, Lots B & C, located on the east side of <br />Liberty Street, from R-9 Residential to C-3 Commercial. There being no <br />comments from persons present, Mayor Adams declared the public hearing <br />closed. Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council <br />adopted the following Ordinance: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled this eleventh day of <br />June, 1996, that in order to assure compliance with Virginia <br />Code Section 15.1-491 (g), it is stated that the public <br />purpose for which this Resolution is initiated is to fulfill <br />the requirements of public necessity, convenience, general <br />welfare and good zoning practice, that the Zoning Map of the <br />City of Martinsville, Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to <br />the extent that Lots B and C, Section 2, Block 8, on the <br />Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville is hereby rezoned from <br />R-9 Residential to C-3 Commercial. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency <br />existing, this ordinance shall be in force immediately upon <br />adoption. <br /> <br /> <br />
