TUESDAY, MAY 28, 1996 <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council set a public <br />hearing for June 11, 1996 on a request by Tommy Houston of Pigs-R-Us, <br />Inc., for the rezoning of Lots B & C, known on the City's Tax Map as <br />Sec. 2, Block 8, Lots B & C, located on the east side of Liberty <br />Street, from R-9 Residential to C-3 Commercial. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged a financial report for the month ending April 30, <br />1996. <br /> <br />Council considered approval of a lease agreement between the City and <br />Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) for their use of the <br />Martinsville Market Center (former Piedmont Dodge Building). David <br />Reeves, Community Development Specialist, noted the lease would be for <br />$10 per year and that the College would be responsible for all <br />utilities and routine maintenance of the building. Cynthia Ingram, <br />Director of Extended Learning, PHCC, stated the building would be used <br />to house the building trades educational program. Earl B. Reynolds, <br />Jr., City Manager, noted this was a landmark event for the community in <br />that it brought the presence of the College to the Uptown area. Upon <br />motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council authorized the <br />City Manager to execute the lease agreement. <br /> <br />Council considered a request by the Sheriff for approval of a lease <br />agreement between the City and Sara Lee Corporation for use of a <br />portion of Sara Lee's property by the Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Steve <br />Draper was present to explain that the property would be used for <br />office space for 10 employees, including the civil process servers, <br />Sheriff, Sheriff's Secretary and Lieutenant. The property to be <br />leased, once the location of the Armory, is the first floor of a <br /> <br /> <br />
