110 <br /> <br />THURSDAY,~MARCH 7, 1996 <br /> <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr., presiding, was <br />held Thursday, March 7, 1996, in Room 200, City Hall, beginning at <br />11:00 A.M. The following members of Council were present: George B. <br />Adams, Jr., Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree, M. Gene Teague; and Clyde L. <br />Willjams. Vice-Mayor L. D. Oakes was away from the City. Also, in <br />attendance were Richard D. Fitts, J. Gary Via and Robert Phillips. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams called the meeting to order. Upon motion, duly seconded <br />and by unanimous vote, Council voted to waive its normal, per-meeting <br />pay for this work session. <br /> <br />City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., introduced three representatives <br />from the Virginia Municipal League Insurance Program, i.e., Linda King, <br />Underwriter for VML; Rob Robertson with Loss Control; and Karen Myers, <br />Assistant Claims Manager. He noted that they would be updating the <br />Council regarding the VML's Insurance Program and the City of Martins- <br />ville specifically. <br /> <br />Ms. King stated the City of Martinsville became a member of the <br />Virginia Municipal Group Self Insurance Association in 1980--being the <br />fourth member in the State. The VMGSIA now has 400 members. She <br />explained the various services provided by VMGSIA and noted that the <br />City of Martinsville had saved over $1,000,000 since 1980 by using <br />their services. <br /> <br />Mr. Rob Robertson representing loss control, noted their goal was to <br />reduce number of accidents by offering quality videos and other <br />educational information through workshops and seminars in order to <br /> <br /> <br />
