TUESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 1995 <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr., presiding, was <br />held Tuesday, December 12, 1995 at Clearview Elementary School <br />beginning at 7:30 P.M. The following members of Council were present <br />at the beginning of the meeting: George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; L. D. <br />Oakes, Vice-Mayor; M. Gene Teague; and Clyde L. Willjams. Arriving <br />during the Neighborhood Town Meeting was Councilman Mark A. Crabtree, <br />who was in attendance at his daughter's school play. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor Adams' cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its meetings of <br />November 27, 28, and 30, 1995. Council amended the minutes of November <br />28, page 60, third full paragraph, first sentence, to read as follows: <br />"Council considered appropriating $193,500 from the Meals Tax Fund for <br />architectural and engineering services for Albert Harris School <br />renovations and the Martinsville High School gymnasium." <br /> <br />Council recognized J. A. "Sonny" Dykes for service on the School Board <br />from 1991-1995. <br /> <br />Council conducted a Neighborhood Town Meeting. The following <br />individuals made comments: (1) James Garrett, 933 Glade Street, <br />suggested the quarterly large item trash pickup be divided into two <br />weeks, stated that persons leave out more refuse than is allowed, <br />stated people park too close to stop signs, said school buses exceed <br />the speed limit and fail to stop at stop signs, and said the City does <br />not enforce "no parking" signs; Public Works Director Leon Towarnicki <br />explained the Staff was reviewing the large item pickup to determine if <br />it should be expanded into two weeks; Police Chief Terry Roop stated <br /> <br /> <br />
