10 <br /> <br />TUESDAY. SEPTEMBER 12, 1995 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of ~the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, was held Tuesday, September 12, 1995 in the <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beg~ning at 7:30 P.M. All members of <br />Council were present: George B. ~dams, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice- <br />Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree; M. Gen,~Teague; and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followe~ by Mayor Adams' cordial welcome to <br /> <br />visitors present, Council ap~oved the minutes of its meetings of <br />August 16, 17 and 22 as circulated. In commenting on the meeting of <br />August 16, Councilman William~'~expressed concern regarding the number <br />of members of minority groups ~.o were appointed as Ambassadors for the <br />Action Council during that 'm~ting, stating that he believed more <br />members of these group~ shc~ul~have been recruited and appointed. <br /> <br />Service awards were preSente~=!..to a number of City employees, a full <br /> <br />listing of which is attached 7-~] these minutes. <br /> <br />Under Business from the Floor' the following individuals spoke: (1) <br /> <br />Buford Hairston, 1148 Banner [-.~' eet, expressed concern regarding storm <br /> <br />water drainage on Banner Str{', z; City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr. <br />stated he would meet with M~?· Hairston to discuss the matter; (2) <br />Lafayette Jones, 501 Second Sii'~et, expressed appreciation to the City <br />for efforts which resulted in~provements to Fayette Street (Route 57) <br />being placed in th~ Virginiaif=~ ~partment of Transportation's Six-Year <br />Plan; (3) Colie Johnson, ll5~.~i-!.~anner Street, supported Mr. Hairston's <br />comments regarding the drain~!le situation; (4) Robert Cabiness, cited <br />continuing problems with p=!!~sons congregating on Fayette Street, <br />creating noise, throwing bo~-/.~!]es, etc.; he stated the Police do not <br />take action when complaints ]~!=.;~ made; Mr. Reynolds stated he would be <br /> <br /> <br />
