<br />78 <br /> <br />TUESDAY~ JUNE 9.1998 <br /> <br />A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City ofMartinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. <br /> <br /> <br />Adams, Jr. presiding, was held Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:00 <br /> <br /> <br />P.M. The following members of Council were present: George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; Dr. Mark A. Crabtree, <br /> <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor; and M. Gene Teague. Council Member Bruce H. T. Dallas was absent due to illness, and <br /> <br />Council Member Elizabeth H. Haskell was absent due to travel outside the City. <br /> <br />/"-'" <br /> <br />After the invocation, provided by Vice-Mayor Mark A. Crabtree, and followed by the Mayor's cordial <br /> <br />welcome to visitors present, Council took up the first item on their agenda, that of approval of minutes. The <br /> <br />minutes of Council's meetings of April 23, April 28, April 29, and May 14, 1998 were approved as submitted, <br />by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />Next on Council's agenda was the presentation of Service Awards to City employees for the period of <br /> <br />January through June of 1998. Twenty-six City employees were recognized to receive awards for service <br /> <br />periods ranging from five to twenty-five years. A list of the employees recognized is attached as a part of <br /> <br />these minutes. <br /> <br />The next item on the agenda was Business from the Floor. There were no speakers under this item. <br /> <br />Council next considered the need to conduct a Public Hearing in order to receive the names of citizens <br /> <br /> <br />interested in being appointed to the City School Board. Mrs. Beth Sibbick of717 Beechnut Lane was the <br /> <br /> <br />only individual nominated for this appointment during the Hearing, following which the nominations and <br /> <br /> <br />Hearing were closed. <br /> <br />~, <br />
