TUESDAY, APRH~ 28, 1998 <br /> <br />Council next considered a suggested list of appointees to Virginia Municipal League Policy Committees. Upon <br />motion duly seconded, and by unanimous vote the list was approved as follows: <br /> <br />Environmental Quality <br /> <br />Finance <br /> <br />General Laws <br /> <br />Human Development and Education <br /> <br />Public Safety <br /> <br />Transportation <br /> <br />M. Gene Teague <br /> <br />Elizabeth Haskell <br /> <br />Mark A. Crabtree <br /> <br />Bruce H. T. Dallas <br /> <br />David J. Edwards <br /> <br />Leon Towamicki <br /> <br />Council next received a Financial Report from Mr. Wade Bartlett, Director of Finance. Mr. Bartlett noted that all <br />major funds were on target for revenue performance except the Electric Fund and the Meals Tax Fund, which he <br />noted were well ahead of projections. He also noted that all funds except the Meals Tax and School Fund were <br />well below expenditure projections at this point. Council Member I-Iaskell asked Mr. Bar~ett' s opinion on the <br />reason for the strong Meals Tax revenue performance, 'and Mr. Bar~ett replied that he felt it was due to a generally <br />strong economy and low unemployment. Council Member Dallas complimented Mr. Bartlett and Ms. Pat Conrad, <br />City Treasurer, for the fine manner in which they had worked together to manage the City' s finances. Mayor <br />Adams asked Ms. Conrad how the process of collection of personal property taxes and delinquent tax collections <br />was proceeding. Ms. Conrad replied that she was not prepared to report on these issues at this time, but would get <br />back to the Council with information on these matters in the near future. Mr. Bartlett commented that collections <br />in those areas had been good through April 15. Mayor Adams commented on the need for the Police to be diligent <br />in enforcement on expired vehicle stickers, and Vice-Mayor Crabtree suggested that it would be an aid to <br />enforcement if the stickers of both Henry County and Martinsville were the same color. Council Member Teague <br />complimented Ms. Conrad on the changes in the Treasurers office that resulted in customer service improvements, <br />and Ms. Conrad expressed her appreciation for the compliment, stating that she and her staff had worked hard to <br /> <br /> <br />
