.TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1997 <br />A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Vice-Mayor Dr. <br /> <br />Mark A. Crabtree presiding, was held Tuesday, November 25, 1997, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 7:00 P.M. The following members of Council were present: Dr. Mark A. Crabtree, Vice- <br />Mayor; Bruce H.T. Dallas, Elizabeth H. Haskell, and M. Gene Teague. Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. was <br />absent while recovering from surgery. <br /> <br />After the invocation, provided by Councilmember Teague, and followed by Vice-Mayor Crabtree's cordial <br />welcome to visitors present, Council approved, upon motion duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, the <br />minutes of its meeting of November 11, 1997, as circulated and amended. <br /> <br />Council next considered presentation of Service Awards to City employees. Vice-Mayor Crabtree read from <br />a list of names of recipients ( See Appendix A), and awards were presented in person to those present. These <br />included the following: 20 years - lames Ronnie Minter, Bobby Lee Setlift. 10 years - Leonard Derek Carter, <br />Richard Michael Young. 5 years - Anita Slaughter Williams. <br /> <br />Council next considered recognition of citizens who have served on various Boards and Commissions. Vice- <br />Mayor Crabtree read a list of those to receive awards, and Council presented awards in person to those <br />present. Recipients of these awards for service included Stafford G. Whittle, III, for service on the Board of <br />Appeals, 1976-1997, Mitch Duncan, for service on the Office on Youth Commission, 1996-1997, Carolyn S. <br />Beale, for service on the Clean Community Commission, 1995-1997, and Lafayette Jones, for service on the <br />West Piedmont Planning District Commission Technical Advisory Committee, 1995-1997. The only <br /> <br />individual present to receive his award was Lafayette Jones. - ~ <br /> <br />Following the above action, and in accordance with Section 2.1-344 (A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, <br />and as amended) and upon motion, duly seconded, and by unanimous recorded vote, Council convened in <br /> <br /> <br />
