TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 1997 <br /> <br />A special and duly-called joint meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, and the Henry County Board of Supervisors, with <br />Mayor George B. Adams, Jr., and Board Chairman Jack E. Dalton, <br />presiding, was held Tuesday, June 24, 1997, in the Board Room at the <br />Henry County Administration Building, beginning at 6:00 p.m. for the <br />purpose of considering several matters related to the new Henry County- <br />Martinsville Department of Social Services. The following members of <br />Council were present: George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree, <br />Vice-Mayor; Bruce H.T. Dallas; Elizabeth H. Haskell; and M. Gene <br />Teague. The following members of the Board were present: Jack E. <br />Dalton, Chairman; R. E. (Mike) Seidle, Vice-Chairman; Paula M. <br />Burnette; Debra Buchanan; Samuel J. Pilson; and H. G. Vaughn. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams and Chairman Dalton called the meeting to order. <br /> <br />Council and the Board received a report and recommendation on the bid <br />received for Phase II renovations of the Henry County-Martinsville <br />Social Services Building located on Church Street in Martinsville. . <br />Following some general discussion, Ms. Joyce Martin responded to <br />questions regarding the use of work partitions instead of enclosed <br />office areas. Ms. Martin further stated that the design of the new <br />office space met with her approval. Upon motion, duly seconded and <br />unanimous approval, Council and the Board agreed to award a contract to <br />Street Construction, the only bidder, for $244,622 for these <br />renovations. <br /> <br />Another construction budget item, funds necessary to install the <br />telephone and data cabling system was also discussed.
