TUESDAY, JUNE 24~ 1997

187

Martinsville City Council reconvened at 7:00 P.M. for its regular,
semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,
Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, on Tuesday, June
24, 1997, at Patrick Henry Elementary School, Church Street Extension.
All members of Council were present: George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor,;
Dr. Mark A. Crabtree, Vice Mayor; Bruce H.T. Dallas; Elizabeth H.
Haskell; and M. Gene Teague.

Following the invocation, provided by Dr. Crabtree, and a cordial
welcome to visitors present by Mayor Adams, a moment of silence was
observed for William Landard Slate, a City employee who lost his life
while working for the City on June 13, 1997. Council then approved
the minutes of its meeting of June 5, unanimously, as circulated.

Council then conducted aNeighborhood Town Meeting. Brenda Prillaman,
Customer Service Representative for the City, provided brief comments
on a report of issues identified as customer concerns within the
neighborhood during the period from June 1996 through June 1997.
Council Member Haskell noted that the report clearly showed unsightly
conditions and litter as primary concerns which should continue to be
priorities. City Manager Reynolds noted that follow up information on
resolution of problems identified at the last Town Meeting was
included in a separate report attached to Mrs. Pri!laman's documents
to Council. There were no comments offered from citizens regarding
neighborhood issues at the Town Meeting.
