:1.68

THURSDAY, MAY 15, 1997

Reynolds approach the clean-up of this property in the same manner as
had been done with the Starling Avenue hospital property. The motion
was unanimously carried.

Council Member Teague made a motion to reduce the proposed real estate
tax rate increase from 8.96 per hundred to $.94. This motion was
seconded and unanimously carried. It was noted this action would
result in a loss of $102,000 in revenue.

Dick Hensley, 1721 Meadowview Lane, suggested that Council consider the
various options available to it to enable the City to expand its
boundaries and suggested a referendum on the issue be held.

Commissioner of Revenue J. Ronnie Minter stated that the State
Compensation Board had only partially funded his request for computer
equipment. $14,902 for a control unit was not funded and Mr. Minter
requested the City fund this item 100%. Finance Director Fitts noted
that the revenues for this expenditure had not been included in the
proposed budget, therefore, State funding of any portion of the
equipment is a net positive result for the budget.

Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council requested
that the City Treasurer enclose information with the December 5, 1997
real estate tax bills regarding the City's program for real estate tax
relief for the elderly and disabled.

Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council approved, on
first reading, Ordinance No. 97-5 setting the FY 97-98 Budget and tax
rates as amended.
