Fleet Manager John Poe <br />explained the differences in the equipment and operation of police <br />vehicles and regular vehicles. Council Member Dallas made a motion to <br />deny the request by the Police Department for two new police cars and <br />put $49,372 back into the Refuse Fund, but the motion died for lack of <br />a second. <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Crabtree made a motion to increase the real estate tax rate <br />by nine cents, but the motion died for lack of a second. Council <br />Member Dallas made a motion to increase the real estate tax rate by ten <br />cents, but the motion died for lack of a second. Upon motion, duly <br />seconded, and a vote of. 3-2 (Vice-Mayor Crabtree and Council Member <br />Dallas opposed) Council agreed to advertise a 12 cent real estate tax <br />rate increase. Upon motion, duly seconded, and a vote of 4-1 (Council <br />Member Dallas opposed) Council agreed to increase the E911 tax from <br />$0.72 to 81.67 per month. Upon motion, duly seconded, and a vote of 4- <br />1 (Council Member Dallas opposed), Council agreed to advertise a public <br />hearing on the budget for May 13 with the following increases to be <br />implemented, along with adjusted decreases in expenditures: real <br />estate tax rate adjustment from 80.84 to $0.96 per Sl00 assessed value, <br />water rate adjustment from $5.40 to $8.00 minimum per month, sewer rate <br />ad3ustment from $3.60 to $6.00 minimum per month, auto decals - cars/ <br />small trucks from $15 to $20, motorcycles from $3 to $5, transfers from <br />81 to $3, and refuse collection rates from 86.00 to $7.50 for residen- <br />tial and from 814.50 to 815.50 for each time a dumpster is emptied. <br /> <br /> <br />
