133
THURSDAY. APRIL 17. 19.97
1 clerical position for the temporary jail addition. The temporary
jail addition is scheduled to be ready for occupancy in the second week
of July, 1997. The Sheriff stated he had asked for approval from the
Compensation Board to hire the additional positions 30 days prior to
occupancy to provide time for training. Council Member Dallas stated
citizens had expressed opposition to housing of non-City inmates in the
jail addition and new jail facility.

Council decided to set an additional budget work session for April 21,
1997 beginning at 2:00 P.M. to review capital projects and the request
of the City/County Social Services Department.

Council Member Teague distributed a graph comparing the costs for real
estate taxes, garbage collection, and water/sewer service for a $52,700
house under the City Manager's proposed budget and the same value home
in Henry County. The graph demonstrated that, even with the additional
revenues requested in the City Manager's budget, it was still less
expensive to live in the City given the provision of similar services.

Mayor Adams then declared the meeting adjourned.

Lance ~/.~Heater, Clerk of

Council
