TUESDAY, APRIL 8, 1997 <br />A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, was <br />held Tuesday, April 8, 1997 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 7:00 P.M. All members of Council were present: George B. <br />Adams, Jr., Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree, Vice-Mayor; Bruce H. T. Dallas; <br />Elizabeth H. Haskell; and M. Gene Teague. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor Adams' cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved the minutes of its meeting of March <br />25, 1997 as circulated. <br /> <br />Council gave recognition to citizens who had served on Boards and <br />Commissions as follows: J. A. Gustin, Board of Appeals, 1976-1997; and <br />Barry Morrison, Industrial Development Authority, 1993-1997. <br /> <br />Under Business From the Floor, Council heard from the following <br />individuals: (1) Mary Trimpey, a resident of Henry County, stating her <br />mother resided at 1017 Mountain Road, cited unsightly conditions and <br />abandoned appliances at 1015 Mountain Road; and (2) in response to <br />inquiries by Gloria Hylton, 402 Second Street, City Manager Earl B. <br />Reynolds, Jr. stated that the "B" Street curb and gutter project was <br />ready to be put out to bid and Assistant to the City Manager for <br />Development Thomas Harned stated a neighborhood meeting would be held <br />April 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the R. P. Thomas site regarding planning for <br />redevelopment of the property; Mr. Harned said demolition of structures <br />on the site should occur during the planned June-August, 1997 period. <br /> <br />Council considered conducting a public hearing on a request from L & H <br />Enterprises of Virginia, Inc., and others to rezone Tax Map 43, Block <br /> <br /> <br />
