M Martinsville

City Council
Agenda Summary

Meeting Date: June 5, 2007
Item No: 5.
Department: Community Development
Issue: Consider setting a public hearing on a recommendation from
the Martinsville Planning Commission to be held July 24,2007 to rezone property
at 1 Starling Avenue (known as parcel 34(06)00jOlA on the Tax Map of the City of
Martinsville) from R-6 Residential to P-2 Professional.

Summary: The structure at the intersection of Starling Avenue and East
Church Street has been used as an office for a number of years, though it has
retained its original designation of residential. In addition, it is surrounded by
properties designated as either R-6 Residential or P-2 Professional. The proposed
land use map of the City of Martinsville indicates this property, as well as the
parcels across the street, as being professional.

Attachments:

Recommendation letter from Planning Commission

Recommendations: The request for the rezoning of this property is consistent
with the surrounding zoning and uses in the area. Further, the future use of this
property is already proposed to be p~ofessional and would not need to have the
land use map amended. Therefore, staff recommends this request be approved.
