<br />Martinsville City Council held a special called meeting May 1, 2007 to receive the <br />interim city manager's budget recommendations. <br />Members present included Mark Anderson, Vice-Mayor James Clark, Ron Ferrill, Kathy <br />Lawson and Mayor Kimble Reynolds. Mayor Reynolds called the meeting to order at 7:30 <br />p.m. in City Council Chambers with city personnel present, including interim city manager <br />Clarence Monday, deputy clerk/communications director Matt Hankins, Sheriff Steve Draper <br />and finance director/assistant city manager Wade Bartlett. <br />The mayor issued a proclamation honoring Correctional Officers Week, and presented <br />the proclamation to Sheriff Draper. Sheriff Draper invited all members of council to attend <br />steak dinners at the Sheriff s Department honoring its officers. <br />Council considered a budget meeting schedule upon recommendation by the interim city <br />manager, to include a budget meeting Monday, May 7,2007 at 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, May <br />15 at 7 pm. with additional work May 22, the date for public hearings related to the budget <br />and to the effect of the biennial reassessment on the 2008 budget and tax rates. <br />City council is to consider questions regarding particular line items prior to the initial <br />meeting, at which time the interim city manager and assistant city manager will answer <br />questions or compile questions for responses at a later meeting. <br />Mr. Clark asked whether the council should authorize the school system to proceed with <br />additional capital work on the Martinsville High School chiller and the former Druid Hills <br />Elementary School re-wiring project. <br />Mr. Anderson agreed the work needed to be done, but expressed disappointment that the <br />school system had determined to relocate its offices to Druid Hills without making adequate <br />preparations. <br />Mrs. Lawson, after failing to persuade council to move the item to the May 8 agenda, <br />moved to allocate $285,000 to fund the Martinsville High School chiller replacement and re- <br />wire the Druid Hills Elementary building. Mr. Ferrill seconded the motion, which then <br />passed on a 5-0 voice vote. <br />Mrs. Lawson moved to adjourn, with Mr. Clark seconding, and council adjourned at 8:50 <br />p.m. <br /> <br />Matthew C.
