<br />412 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 27. 1955 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, December 27, 1955, at 7:30 P.M., with all members <br /> <br />present, as follows: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; Vice-Mayor and <br /> <br />Councilman C. P. Craig; and Councilmen B. H. Hill, "W. T. Turner, and J. R. <br /> <br />Walker. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held December 13, 1955 were approved <br /> <br />as read. <br /> <br />Council unanimously enacted the following ordinance, as placed on first <br /> <br />reading December 13, 1955, amending the City's Zoning Code and Zoning Map <br /> <br />to provide for the rezoning of a portion of Spruce Street Extended: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINID by the Council of the City of Ma.rtinsville <br />that the Zoning Code and Zoning Map of the City of <br />Martinsville be amended to provide as follows: <br /> <br />Tha t all of the property presently owned by Lanier <br />Farm, Inc., and lying to the rear of the present <br />B-1 Business district between the limits on Spruce <br />Street Extended be rezoned from A-I Residential <br />to B-1 Business. <br /> <br />Council then considered the proposal, embodied in the ordinance also plqced <br /> <br />on first reading December 13th, to rezone both the East and West sides of <br /> <br />Old Danville Road between a point 460 feet north of its intersection with <br /> <br />parkview Avenue and a point 1530 feet south of said intersection. Mr. Frank <br /> <br />I. Richardson appeared before Council in opposition to said proposal insofar <br /> <br />as it would affect his property in the area. After some discussion in which <br /> <br />were raised the questions as to why the area north of Parkview Avenue should <br /> <br />be rezoned and as to why all of the property fronting on the West side of <br />
