Frank I. Richardson, owner <br /> <br />of some property within the area, appeared before Council and registered his objections <br /> <br />to the proposal. Council placed on first reading the following ordinance which would <br /> <br />effect said proposed rezoning: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Ma.rtinsville that the Zoning Code <br />and Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be amended to provide as follows: <br /> <br />1. That the east side of the Old Danville 110ad between a point <br />460 feet north of its intersection with Park-view Avenue and <br />a point 1530 feet south of the above mentioned intersection <br />be rezoned from B-1 Business to A-2 Residential zoning. <br /> <br />2. L. Carper, of the City School System, presented to Council the <br /> <br />following offer from Lanier Farm, Inc. in connection 'with the School Board's <br /> <br />recoIDOended school building program; however, Council deferred action on this offer <br /> <br />as well as on an application to the State Literary Fund for a loan to build a new <br /> <br />school building on this tract, pending study and recommendations by City Manager <br /> <br />Ma thews 0 n: <br /> <br />This is to au'vise you that we will sell to the Martinsville City School <br />Board 9.66 acres located on Indian Trail shown as plot B on a map prepared <br />by H. S. Peirce June 2, 1955 and Lot 2, Section D, Susan Lane for the total <br />sum of $17,090. This is as per my letter of April 28 to you. <br /> <br />We will accept a ~>2,000 down payment and two notes in the amount of $7,545 <br />each--one note due July 15, 1956, and the other note due July 15, 1957, each <br />note bearing its o~n interest at 4 per cent. <br /> <br />In the event the School Board does not use this land for school purposes <br />within a period of five years, or longer if you so des ire, we agree to return <br />forewith the entire purchase price to the Il.Iartinsville City School Board, <br />and I shall have the deed drawn accordingly as soon as I have received your <br />advice in this matter. <br /> <br />sl Rives S.
