<br />~54 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 12, 1955 <br /> <br />In return for perpetual easement from Cities Service Oil Company to the City of <br /> <br />Martinsville covering certain property owned by said Cit:Les Service Oil Company, to <br /> <br />be used for sidewalk purposes, Council authorized City Manager Mathewson to execute <br /> <br />a deed of lease, as approved by City Attorney Stone, vrhereby the City of Martinsville <br /> <br />will lease for the S:lm of one dollar per year and on a nonth-to-month basis to Cities <br /> <br />Service Oil Company certain unused right-of-way at the nortITnest corner of Fayette <br /> <br />Street and Memorial Boulevard intersection for the purpose of allowing said Cities <br /> <br />Service Oil Company to install a pump island on its mom property to which access can <br /> <br />be made over the small tract of land leased. <br /> <br />A petition from the Clea.1"Vievr Elementary School PTA, requesting the City to obtain <br /> <br />necessary right-of-way and cOl13truct a sidewalk along Barrows Mill Road from N"lr. J. A. <br /> <br />Richardson's residence to Clearview school access road (the Clearview PTA to pay the <br /> <br />cost of necessa~J grading), was referred to City Manager Mathewson. <br /> <br />In support of a resolution prepared by the Utilities Committee of the League of <br /> <br />Virginia Municipalities for Presentation to the State Corporat,Itll'Commission during the <br /> <br />course of its hearing scheduled April 26, 1955 on &1 application from the Chesapeake <br /> <br />and Potomac Telephone Company to pass on to its customers, as a separate charge, any <br /> <br />license tax imposed by local governingbodies for the privilege of doing business in <br /> <br />the respective localities, Council questioned the advisability of permitting any <br /> <br />utilit;r to follow this procedure and instructed its Clerk to so advise the Corporat;n\ <br /> <br />Commission. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />\~l~. , <br />~'-' ~ tV,,":\./'--~' ...l..--....-~ <br />H.
