<br />338 <br /> <br />TUE3 DAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 8, 1955 <br /> <br />V'fHEREAS, Robert Anderson Fontaine departed this life on February 5, 1955, and <br /> <br />I"rnEREAS, during his lifetime Robert Anderson Fontaine not only faithfully and <br />efficientJ,y served the people of Martinsville as a menber of their City Council <br />but also in all his endeavors continually exerted his efforts in the interest <br />and progress of his city and community; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Mar tins vi lIe , <br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this eighth day of February, 1955, that <br />it doth herein both pay tribute to Robert Anderson Fontaine for his valuable <br />contributions to the City of Martinsville and its people and doth express its <br />deepest sympathy to his family in their bereavement, and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that this resolution is, and be, made a <br />part of the minutes of its meeting held this eighth clay of February, 1955, and <br />that copy of this resolution be fOI'viarded to Mr. Fontaine's widow and family; <br />and that copies be furnished the local press and radio. <br /> <br />The fol1ovdng memorandum vms received by Council from City Manager Mathewson with <br /> <br />reference to requested subdivision regulations, which regulations Council flplaced on <br /> <br />the tablell for study for further consideration: <br /> <br />February 8, 1955 <br /> <br />To: <br />From: <br />Subject: <br /> <br />The Mayor and Council <br />The City Manager <br />Requested Subdjvision Regulations <br /> <br />In accordance vath your request, I am submitting herewith a set of suggested <br />subdivision regulations together with related data. I regret the delay in <br />forwarding the material. I have felt, however, that any contemplated <br />legislation as significant as this should have the benefit of the widest <br />possible research. <br /> <br />Subdivision regulations from most of the principal cities of Virginia have been <br />secured and studied. RecolIL-:Jended regulations, advice and counsel have been <br />obtained from several State and National sources including the National Institute <br />of Municipal Law Officials, The National Association of Real EState Boards, The <br />Urban Land Institute, The American Society of Planning Officials, The International <br />City Managers' Association and the Virginia League of Municipalities. <br /> <br />Research included the preparation of a preliminary draft of suggested subdivision <br />regulations. Over a year ago copies were sent to a crosssection of our real <br />estate agents, members of the Planning Comlnssion, members of the City Council, <br />various City officials, and several citizens at large. Criticisms and comments <br />were invi ted and studied. <br />
