J22

TUESDAY

DECEMBER 28. 1954

Preparatory to the proposed widening of Memorial Boulevard from the

Joseph Martin School property south to the City's corporate limits, the

follo"'ing Water-Street Division report and recommendations were received

and accepted by Council with the understanding that City Manager Mathewson

will present in the immediate future an estimate of the cost of widening

Bridge Street from Church Street to Chestnut Street on one side of said

Bridge Street:

MEMORANDUM

December 17, 1954

To: Mr. Walker H. Graves, Director
Water, Electric & Street Department

Subject: Utility Improvements along Proposed Hemorial Boulevard
Extension

I have made a study of existing utilities along the proposed
extension of Memorial Boulevard from the Joseph Martin School
southward along U.S. 220 to the City Limits. The purpose of this
study was to determine whether or not the existing six-inch .'ater
main which is nmf serving the River Hill and Rivermont Heights
area is of adequate size to satisfectorily supply probable future
developments in this area and also to determine whether or not
the existing eight-inch sewer main which nmf serves the residences
and business establishments along U.S. 220 from the intersection of
Summit Street and Memorial Boulevard to the Davis Trailor Camp,
located outside the city IL~its near Cooper and Ratcliff Grocery.

I do not believe that these utilities are of adequate size to allow
for probable future developments in this general area, therefore,
I am recommending that consideration be given to the installation of
the following:

I. The construction of an eight-inch water main, beginning at the
end of the existing six-inch main located on Douglas Street
adjacent to the Joseph Martin School, south\fard along Douglas
Street to 1.Jhittle Street, eastward along vlhittle Street to
U.S. 220 South, and southward along U.S. 220 to the City Limits;
along with cross connections from this water main to the
existing six-inch water main at various intervals.

2. The construction of an additional eight-inch sewer mall1 from the
intersection of Oak Grove Avenue and U.S. 220 southward along
U.S. 220 to the entrance of Davis Trailor Camp, where the sewer
line will intercept the existing sewer main.
