<br />3( <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 12 J 1954 <br /> <br />.~-- <br /> <br />Upon receiving a report from the Water-Electric-5treet D:lpartn:ent concerning the <br /> <br />City's sewerage system and the need for improvements to said system, Coum il decided <br /> <br />to consider and devise ways and means of modernizing said system. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duJ.y seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized City Manager <br /> <br />Mathewson to execute on behalf of the City an agreement with Mr. & Mrs. P. S. Ford, <br /> <br />owners of West End Service Station at the intersection of Fayette Street and <br /> <br />Memorial Boulevard whereby the City would correct certain adverse conditions at <br /> <br />said location caused by construction of Memorial Bouleva.rd and would give the owners <br /> <br />a quit-claim deed to Matt street provided the owners deed to the City an eight-foot <br /> <br />strip of land needed for a sidewalk which the City proposed to build and make certain <br /> <br />other required changes as. noted in the agreement. <br /> <br />~~ <br />il <br />i <br /> <br />In receiving the announcement of appointn:ent by Governor Thomas B. Stanley of Mr. <br /> <br />S. S. Flythe as State Highway Commissioner from the Salem Highway District, Council <br /> <br />'Went on record as expressing its appreciation and endorsement to Governor Stanley and <br /> <br />its c ongra tula. ti ODS to Mr. Flythe. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />- <br />
