<br />00 <br /> <br />TUESDA Y <br /> <br />OCTOBER 12 J 1954 <br /> <br />Dr. James Martin of the University of Kentucky; Dr. Arch Dotson of Cornell University; <br /> <br />orD:-. Joseph Lucas, Assistant Dean of the University of Chicago Law School. Co~il, <br /> <br />thereupon, requested City Manager Mathewson to secure tile research service of the State <br /> <br />Department of Taxation and to recommend one of the three authorities mentioned <br /> <br />hereinabove. <br /> <br />Pursuant to a recent request from :rester Lumber Company, Inc. and to the :City planning <br /> <br />Commission's recommendations of October 11, 1954, as follows, Council authorized the <br /> <br />closing of Rock street and, also, authorized ~or Hodnett to execute an agreement <br />between the City of Martinsville and Lester Lumber Company, Inc. relating to the closing <br />of said Rock Street: <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />City of Martinsville, Virginia <br /> <br />Gentlemen: <br /> <br />The Planning Commission of the City of Martinsville, at a special meeting on <br />October 11, 1954, considered a request referred to them by City Council from the <br />:rester Lumber Company, inVolving the closing and abandonment of an unopened <br />street known as Rock street. After due comideration of this request, the <br />Commission voted u:na.nimously to make the following recoIlIlOOndation to the City <br />Council: <br /> <br />That the request as presented by the :rester Lumber Company be granted. <br /> <br />In considering this request, the Planning Commission noted the following facts: <br /> <br />1. That the only property owner involved in the closing of Rock Street is the <br />:rester Lumber Company. <br />2. That the street, having never been opened, does not serve and has not served <br />as a means of ingress and egress to a.rry property. <br />3. Rock Street does not fit in with any future planning of the Planning <br />Commission as foreseen at the present time. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission respectfully submits the above recommendation for Council's <br />further cons idera tion. <br /> <br />Yours very truly, <br /> <br />Irving R.
