<br />2~ <br /> <br />TUESDA Y <br /> <br />.ruNE 22. 1954 <br /> <br />After receiving a report from City Manager Mathewson on the Civil Defense <br /> <br />Alert Exercise held June 14, 1954, COUIlCil adopted the following ordinance <br /> <br />regarding "public drunkenness" to be effective July 1, 1954: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAllJED, by the Courlcil of the City of l1artinsville, <br />Virginia, at a regular and duly called meeting of said Council, <br />thst Title VIII, Chapter I, Section 2., of the Nartinsville <br />City Code entitled "Wrongs and Offenses Generally" be amended <br />to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2. Drunkenness in Public. Any person who shall get <br />or be drunk in public shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor <br />and, upon conviction, shall be fined not less than $1 nor more <br />then $10; provided, however, that if any person shall be <br />convicted of bei.ng drunk in pubUc three times wi thin one <br />year in the C-:1ty of Nartinsville, upon the third or any sub- <br />secuent conviction for such offense wi thin the peri.od of one <br />year, such person shall be punished by imprisonment in jail <br />for not more th2n six months, or by a fine not in excess of <br />$25, or by both such fine and imprisonment. <br /> <br />~~ <br />i' <br />~ <br /> <br />The following rezoning petition submitted by Sale Knitting Company, Inc. was <br /> <br />referred to the Planning Commission for its consideration and reco~~Bndation: <br /> <br />We respectfully request that all of the property now owned by <br />us in the Roy street-Wingfield section that is not now zoned <br />B-2 Industrial be sc zoned. Please find attached map which <br />indicates all of the property owned by us inside of the red <br />boundry as being part of this request. <br /> <br />You will note we have excluded one small 30 ft. section in the <br />north-west corner as it is extremely remote that we would <br />ever need this secti.on. <br /> <br />It is out intention to use thi.s prnperty as \'!(-l are now doing. <br />He would appreciate your actine upon this at your earliest <br />convenience and assure you of our contim).ed cooperation. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded end unanimously carried, Cotmcil authorized City <br /> <br />Treasurer \Jm. R. Shumate to assume for the City the 1953 real estate taxes <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />on the various properties acquired by the City for the Route 220 Thoroughfare, <br /> <br /> <br />as of the dates the City acquired such properties and pursuant to a detailed <br />
